AM Report 26 June 18: Mixed messages on US trade hurt global markets

US sharemarkets fell sharply on Monday with tech stocks leading the declines on the possibility of investment restrictions in the sector. But losses were pared in the last 30 minutes of trade after White House trade adviser Peter Navarro denied investment restrictions in the tech sector were imminent. After being down over 496 points, the Dow Jones ended lower by 328 points or 1.3%. The S&P 500 index fell by 1.4% and the Nasdaq fell by 161 points or 2.1%.
