US Close 16 Jan 19: US stocks advance, Brexit voted down

The US sharemarket improved overnight thanks to gains from healthcare and technology stocks. As expected, the current Brexit deal was unanimously voted down in UK Parliament (although the margin of defeat was worse than expected).
