Morning Report 8 May 19: US-China trade tensions drag markets lower

US sharemarkets slumped on Tuesday on fears about a breakdown of trade talks between the US and China. Selling was broad-based, but trade sensitive stocks fell the most. With earnings season near an end, aggregate earnings from S&P 500 stocks are up 1.2% on a year ago, compared with a 2.3% decline estimated at the start of the season.
