I currently live in Eagle Nest, NM with my wife. My wife and I are both teachers. My daughter graduated from NMSU and is currently communications director for the NM American Federation of Teachers. I have taught history for 26 years, worked as a Stock Broker, Commercial Insurance Agent, and Nuclear Weapons Specialist in the USAF and a Combat Heavy Engineer Platoon Leader in the US Army National Guard as a Captain. I have a BA and MA in History from Louisiana Tech University, a BA in Social Studies Education and 45 Hours of additional graduate work in Education Administration. I am a certified teacher in Social Studies, Language Arts, Performing Arts, Coaching and Administration. I was a Municipal Judge and Mayor Pro Tem where I live in Eagle Nest, I ran for State Senate in 2008, and I have served in the NM Public Education Commission 2009-2017. I am a Red Cross Volunteer, guitarist, singer, hiker and I am active in politics for the primary purpose of improving the state of New Mexico to provide a better life for us all and a better future for our children.
I felt it important to explain to everyone what I mean when I use the word 'progressive'. I use that term as it came out of the 19th century.
Media Literacy

Incorporating media literacy in Civics is important for increasing students’ intellectual curiosity and promoting self-efficacy. New Mexico Native Americans

As a history teacher who has included extensive Native American curriculum to my classes and who has taught thousands of Native Americans over my tenure I do have a special place in my heart for native Americans and a knowledge that your average citizen does not. I believe in the autonom (show all)

I grew up in the country and I have many wonderful memories of hiking through the back country observing nature and basking in the solitude and at the same time feeling one with all of it. I had a trusted dog named Sue as my companion. I still love to hike and now I have my wife and a ne (show all)

If you hate unions I am not your candidate. I am a proud member of the New Mexico American Federation of Teachers. I am a Past local Union president in Taos who negotiated many contracts and took our local school district to task for labor violations and won. I also served as AFTNM's VP (show all)
