Karen Coleman talks to the Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness about the vote in the European Parliament this week on plans to boost trust in the EU approval procedure for pesticides by making it more transparent and accountable.
The majority of MEPs approved a report that was put forward by a special European Parliament committee that was set up last February to investigate the authorisation procedure for pesticides. It was established after the controversial 5-year renewal of glyphosate.
The report says that the public should be granted access to the studies used in the authorisation procedure, including all supporting data and information relating to the applications.
