“The LORD God” (Yahweh Elohim) is the major subject of chapter two, as His name appears 11 times in the text (2:4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 15, 16, 18; 19, 21, 22). The six-day creation account in Genesis 1:1-2:3 is followed in Genesis 2:4-24 by a more careful consideration of the creation of mankind. The central idea of this section is that God created mankind in His image with the capacity to understand and obey Him.
