Someone asked me what I am most thankful for during the holiday season. It didn't take me long to answer that question.
I am thankful for friends who have become my family. I am beyond one very lucky person to have two special people, who years ago, took me underneath their wings and into their family as their own. Behind the scenes Mike and Genie have adopted me in as their own child. They are my family... soul family. Yesterday, after spending time as a family. I realized just how fortunate, I really have become.
They have selflessly given not just their time. But their heart. They have supported me, guided me, loved me more than words can ever explain. When I was at my lowest, they helped me get back on my feet. They have counseled my marriage and helped to put the pieces back together. They have given me the strength by words of unwavering moral support over the past month, when a prognosis turned out to not be so great.
Two parents, not made of blood, but of by heart.
I believe special people such as my parents, Mike and Genie are one of God's gifts. Their dedication to serve others as well as their church community, is something that should be looked upon as what others should strive to be... good souls.
They have taught me when to stand up for myself. When to know the point has been proven and how to walk away with dignity and my head held high. Our shared passion for the love of animals is something that cannot be denied. I am blessed to not just have their unconditional love and support. But as well from their children who have become my siblings. I have not just gained a family over the years but also God children.
You see. Family isn't just made of your choosing. Sometimes God has a helping hand. Protect those with everything you got that love you unconditionally. Never be afraid to close doors, when there is no longer love. Because you never know who may behind the other door. Waiting to love you back.
