Hey, Sister Friend!
In today’s episode, I discuss a difficult but important topic when it comes to leadership. Today we are talking about burnout. We are going to discuss what it is, symptoms, and some strategies to deal with it.
In previous episodes, I talked about the expectations surrounding Christian life and leadership. It is characterized by service and sacrifice. That is and will always be true, but it is important to also maintain focus on keeping your tank full of God’s strength and enduring presence. Leaders can become trapped in a vicious cycle of unhealthy sacrifice for others, which leads to burnout.
Based on my observations, and observations that others have shared, I believe a large percentage of people are functioning from a place of burnout or near burnout. Working in a helping profession such as healthcare, ministry, social work, etc. increases one’s risk for occupational burnout. When you add the prolonged and unpredictable nature of the pandemic, rates of burnout are the highest we have ever seen.
It is important to recognize the warning signs of burnout in yourself and others. Once you recognize the signs, you can take steps to try to mitigate the effects.
In addition to other practical strategies discussed in the episode, drawing your strength, endurance, and hope in the Lord is the ultimate key to preventing and successfully navigating the effects of burnout.
I hope this episode blesses you and that you will continue to join me on this journey toward balance, peace, and freedom to live the abundant life you were called to.

Tanya
