Market Close 23 April 19: Market hits 7-month highs as energy outperforms

The Australian sharemarket has kicked off the holiday shortened week in positive territory, helped by a rally in the energy sector and strong gains in financial, retail and IT stocks. The ASX 200 (XJO) closed up 59 points or 1% to 6,319 – breaking through the 6,300 mark for the first time since early September.
