De-Conversion or Being Kept?

In the wake of many so-called "de-conversion" stories of those from an evangelical Christian background who have walked away from that faith, what does the Bible teach about these occurrences?  How do we think about these testimonies, and what should we do to carefully consider our own potential to end up in the same place?
