US sharemarkets ended mixed. Shares in Applied Materials rose 7%, boosting the tech sector, after the chipmaker lifted its revenue and profit forecast. But shares in Nordstrom fell by 6.7% after the department store's profit fell short of forecast. The Dow Jones fell by 21 points or 0.1%, the S&P 500 index ended flat while the Nasdaq lifted almost 17 points or 0.4%. Over the week the Dow Jones rose by 2.6% with the S&P 500 up 2.8% and the Nasdaq gained 3.8%.

China's central bank said it injected 163 billion yuan (US$25 billion) to 20 financial institutions via its medium-term lending facility (MLF) on Friday and also lowered offered rates for MLF loans.
