Sermon on the Mount | Series Kickoff | Matthew 5:1-12

Dan helps reorient us to the original contextual background of this teaching, enabling us to hear Jesus' words as they were intended to be heard. He shows how the gospel writer Matthew depicts Jesus as a new Moses, rescuing God's people and establishing a new covenant community. The Beatitudes are written to those who are broken, those suffering injustice, and those seeking peace. The beatitudes are not qualifications or aspirations. They are a proclamation of what is true about Jesus' Kingdom on earth.
