During the final fifteen years of my forty-two years in industrial sales, I enjoyed teaching and sharing my experience with new members of the sales and customer service teams. One of my favorite topics to teach was entitled, “What Does the Customer Really Want.” This included practical product and process knowledge but it also included something that one might not normally associate with the field, intuition. Many of the up and coming team members were both surprised and delighted that they could actually call upon this gift to have a deeper understanding of the customer’s needs, resulting in a more satisfying and productive relationship. Is there a way that each of us may call upon and develop our natural intuitive abilities to reach our highest potential and also extend these gifts to others?
