Disruptive Praise
Text: Luke 19:28-40
Thesis: We must praise God in such a way that brings glory to God and the world hears us!
1. Jesus for the past three years verbally taught that He was the Messiah, sent from God, to be the Savior of the world.
Now He will depict who He is, in this intentional bold action!
See Luke 19:28-36
A. Jesus in His grand entry into Jerusalem made a deliberate claim to be King,
Fulfilling the picture in Zechariah 9:9.
*“Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you,
righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
Zechariah 9:9
B. Many understood the deliberate claim of Jesus and responded in various ways.
*“It was such a dramatic action which Jesus planned now. He proposed to ride into Jerusalem in a way
that would be an unmistakable claim to be the Messiah, God’s anointed one.” William Barclay
2. There is a praise that is so profound that it captures the attention of bystanders! (Vss. 37-40)
A. The Pharisees disliked their praise because they could not accept Jesus’
claim to be the Messiah.
*“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through
me.” John 14:6
1. There will be those who dislike your praise.
3. There is a praise that is so pure that it glorifies God.
A. The praise of the disciples was disruptive to some. See Luke 19:37-38
*“...the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud
voices...” Luke 19:37
B. Jesus defends His disciples to the Pharisees.

*“Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he
A. Those that praised Jesus could not help themselves.
1. Praise will break you out of your comfort zone. It is ok that others notice!
*“Whenever you sing joyfully and loud, whenever you raise your hand, whenever you stand in
excitement, whenever you say amen in affirmation you will cease to be inconspicuous.”

2. Lead others to the throne room of God.
3. Don’t try to hide out in worship. Yes, Jesus said it’s ok to be
disruptive!
4. Forget self and others. Focus on God! There is a praise level that will challenge your dignity, but
God can help!
We must praise God in such a way that brings glory to God and the world hears us!
