AM Report 2 May 18: Inflation & rate concerns hit, investors await apple results.

US sharemarkets ended mixed on Tuesday. Shares in Merck, Pfizer and McDonalds weighed on the Dow while technology stocks supported the Nasdaq. Reuters also reported that US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said the Trump administration was prepared to levy tariffs on China if an American delegation heading to Beijing did not reach a settlement on trade imbalances. After being down as much as 355 points, the Dow Jones ended lower by 64 points or 0.3%. The S&P 500 index rose by 0.3%, while the Nasdaq gained 64 points or 0.9%.
