US Close 27 Jul 16: Mixed earnings held the DOW back, ahead of the FED and Apple result

US sharemarkets improved from lows over Tuesday's session to end mixed. Shares in Caterpillar rose by 5.2% after releasing earnings data but shares in McDonalds fell by 4.5% after reporting worse than expected sales at US restaurants. After being down 106 points in early trade, the Dow Jones index fell by 19 points or 0.1%. The S&P 500 index was up by less than 0.1% while the Nasdaq gained 12 points or 0.2%.
