Irish woman Emily O’Reilly will face another round of votes tomorrow in the European Parliament when MEPs take part in a second ballot for the election of the EU Ombudsman.
Ms O’Reilly was first elected to the post in 2013. And she’s been the EU Ombudsman since then. But the post is up for grabs now that the Parliament has started its new mandate.
The first ballot was held today but none of the five contesting candidates won the required majority of votes.
However O’Reilly secured the biggest backing with (240) two hundred and forty votes. The runner up got (162) one hundred and sixty two.
The Fine Gael MEP Maria Walsh says she and her fellow Fine Gael MEPs are all supporting the Irish woman.
