One — Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is in Israel today to get an update on the war in Gaza. His visit comes as President Biden has criticized Israel over mounting civilian casualties as it tries to destroy the Hamas. There have been hints that Israel could move to a lower-intensity strategy in the New Year and if that's the case, Austin wants to hear the plan.
Two— Michigan's average gasoline price is under three-dollars a gallon for the first time in 2023. Triple-A Michigan says the statewide average is down 15-cents from last week to two-dollars-96-cents, which is 35-cents below last month and 12-cents less than last year. The state's highest price is in Marquette at three-18, while Traverse City has the lowest prices at two-87 a gallon.
And number three — One Democratic senator is comparing the flow of immigrants to the U.S. to a sold-out concert. Speaking on CNN's State of the Union, Joe Manchin of West Virginia said the U.S. is at capacity and it's become dangerous to let more people enter the country.
