US Close 7 Nov 18: Stocks lift as US midterm elections kick off

US sharemarkets did well to finish near intraday highs on light volume as the key US midterm elections kick off. This is set to be a key test for the Trump Administration and has the potential to move markets if results surprise. Polls suggest Democrats could take control of the House of Representatives and the Senate to retain the Senate.
