US Close 14 Sept 16:Another big slide on US bond and share markets, SPI set for 11pt slide

US sharemarkets fell again on Tuesday but ended off session lows. A weaker oil price weighed on the energy sector. Investors are still debating the timing of US rate hikes. Financial stocks eased on expectations that a rate hike could be delayed until later in the year. Investors contend that higher interest rates can serve to lift bank interest rate margins. But telcos reported strong pre-orders for the iPhone 7 device, supporting Apple's share price. The Dow Jones index ended lower by 258 points or 1.4% after being down 297 points at one stage. The S&P500 index fell by 1.5% and the Nasdaq lost 57 points or 1.1%.
