Fred Cowgill (Sports Director, WLKY) - Reflections on a 37 year run with the station and a look ahead to Kentucky Derby 150 and the PGA Championship

Fred Cowgill is an Emmy award winning sportscaster for WLKY. He's been the sports director for 37 years, a tenure that will be coming to a close in a little over a month.  We look back on his start in the business and some of his favorite stories over the years.  We also look ahead to a final month that will rival anything he has covered with the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby and the PGA Championship at Valhalla.

The recognition for Fred’s work includes 17 “Best of Louisville” Awards, The Kentucky Derby Festival's Dean Eagle Award for service to horse racing, the Kentucky Sportscaster of the Year Award by the National Sports Media Association, "Kentucky Best Sportscaster" Awards from the Associated Press and an Emmy for coverage of Muhammad Ali’s funeral.  He has also run internship programs for 43 years which have promoted over a hundred professionals into the business.
