Attack the Heart: Criticism

Matthew 7:1-5

Introduction:

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

Criticism blinds you to your own faults and possible judgment.

1. A critical heart leads to severe personal judgment. (vv. 1–2)

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.

Quote: “An unforgiving Christian is an oxymoron.”

1 Peter 4:8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Romans 12:18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

2. A critical heart minimizes my own short comings and maximizes others’. (vv. 3–4)

Quote: “Our self-evaluation is about as accurate as a carnival mirror.”

3. A critical heart will not look inside their own heart/life. (v. 5)
