The president of the European Commission’s description of the European Parliament as “ridiculous” is disgraceful and unjustified. That’s according to the Independent MEP Marian Harkin. She was referring to Jean-Claude Juncker’s outburst yesterday during a debate reviewing the Maltese presidency of the European Council. Mr Juncker derided MEPs when so few of them turned up to hear an address by the Maltese prime minister. He denounced the parliament as being totally ridiculous and he warned that he would never again attend a meeting of its kind. However, Marian Harkin says the busy schedules of the MEPs mean they can’t always attend every session in the chamber.
