Morning Report 9 Sep 21: Stocks retreat as investors wait for the next catalyst to emerge

US and European equity markets traded lower overnight as investors look ahead for the next significant catalyst. US sharemarkets retreated on Wednesday as investors reassessed valuations amid rising economic risks, including the reduction in central bank stimulus. The Dow Jones index fell by 69 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index lost 0.1% and the Nasdaq index dropped 88 points or 0.6%. European sharemarkets fell on Wednesday, a day before the European Central Bank meeting. The German Dax index slid 1.5% and the UK FTSE index lost 0.8%.
