Oh, don’t mind us,just two women fan-girling over each other in broad daylight!
Marissa is one of those skaters I quietly admired from a distance at the park, unsure exactly what drew me in beyond her obvious talent on wheels. Maybe it was the way the whole space seemed to light up when she was around-the sincerity in her hugs, that radiant smile that made everyone feel seen.
We only just properly connected, and I honestly don’t know why it took this long. Maybe it’s because she usually rolled through during peak chaos hours at Venice, and I was more of a quiet-morning snake-run girl myself.
In this episode, Marissa opens up with beautiful honesty about her tough childhood, stepping up to become her sister’s guardian while navigating the heartbreak of a father battling (and finally overcoming) alcoholism shortly before his passing.
She also shares the behind-the-scenes journey of building Mamaskate, her skatewear brand for women, her brief time on OnlyFans and how she feels about it now, and her three-year relationship with the incredibly talented skater Leandre “Skategoat” Sanders-the love, the breakup, and the lessons in between and how it was going from a skater couple to navigating the same areas now as individuals no longer in a union.
Marissa is an open book and truly one of the kindest souls I’ve met.
hope you enjoy this episode
