The European Parliament voted today to support the backstop and the existing Brexit Withdrawal Agreement.
The majority of MEPs backed a resolution that says the current Withdrawal deal is “fair, balanced and provides legal certainty”. And it reiterated the Parliament’s support for “an orderly Brexit”.
MEPs pledged to reject any Withdrawal Agreement without the backstop.
The Green Party MEP Ciaran Cuffe says the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier is very frustrated with the British government.
