AM Report 27 Jul 18: Dow boosted by trade talks while NASDAQ hit by Facebook

US sharemarkets were mixed on Thursday. Shares in Facebook fell by 19%, wiping around $110 billion off capitalisation, in response to a disappointing earnings result. But shares in industrials and other tech stocks rose in response to generally encouraging earnings news. Shares in chipmaker AMD rose by 14.3%. Amazon, Intel and Twitter report earnings after the close of trade on Thursday. The Dow Jones index rose by 113 points or 0.4%. But the S&P 500 index fell by 0.3% and the Nasdaq index lost 80 points or 1.0%.
