Lead yourself
I truly believe in the idea that the best leaders first lead themselves.
1 Corinthians 9:25-27, he writes, “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.” In other words, Paul worked hard at leading himself so that he could effectively lead others.
He was willing to go through the pain to better himself for the sake of others.
Make it a routine you enjoy.
Automatic coffee pot that will have a fresh pot ready at 5am. Have your favorite podcast ready to play to help you wake up. Have a bible and journal out to read and pray.
Look at your calendar and plan your day- who you will see, what you will do and how you will respond in each situations.
2. Learn to work out for the sake of working out when you don’t want to.
Sure you can work out to get bigger, stronger, faster and or thinner…
but the truth is- is that learning how to discipline your body when you don’t want to discipline your body is a key to success in every area of your life. When you don’t want to work out- discipline yourself to work out.
*also, it is the best way to fight stress, depression and anxiety.
3. Keep your spiritual disciplines no matter what and stay accountable. i.e. When you read, what you read, what you thought about what you read, take notes of what you read…
Meet regularly to discuss and motivate each other. But Keep Jesus time a priority and one worth staying accountable to.
4. Post it notes: but not just cool slogans and interesting and motivating quotes… but your values.
Sure you can put up things that say:
A wolf doesn’t care what the sheep are thinking…
We either make ourself miserable or make ourselves strong, the work is the same- you choose.
OK THOSE ARE COOL… BUT VALUES ARE MORE GUIDING AND MORE LIFE ALTERING WHEN THEY SOAK IN.
one of mine is: No defense, No attack, no regrets. (That was Jesus life in a nutshell)
You don’t have Jesus until he is all you got. C.S Lewis
I like putting them on my mirrors… why? Because I can read them and then look directly at myself to keep myself accountable.
5. You must keep improving yourself. Books, videos, Youtube, audible, podcasts.
Not for entertainment but for growth and advantage.
Craig Randall drives a garbage truck in Peabody, Massachusetts. in a garbage container one day, he noticed a Wendy's soft drink cup bearing a contest sticker. Having won a chicken sandwich the week before, Randall checked it, hoping for some french fries or a soft drink.
Instead, he peeled a sticker worth $200,000 toward the construction of a new home, reports U.S. News and World Report (11/6/95).
What we get out of life depends a lot on what we look for… Meaning you must teach yourself to learn at all times. When standing in the bank, when watching your kids t ball game, when on the bus or plane…
