TEXT
Exodus 25:1-9 NKJV
Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an [a]offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering. 3 And this is the offering which you shall take from them: gold, silver, and bronze; 4 blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, and goats’ hair; 5 ram skins dyed red, [b]badger skins, and acacia wood; 6 oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense; 7 onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate. 8 And let them make Me a sanctuary,[c] that I may dwell among them. 9 According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.
INTRODUCTION
Good evening, everybody!
I’m so glad you came out on this cold evening.I have to say that since we have been in the book of Revelation since August of 2018, it’s going to feel strange doing anything else!
As I have prayed and sought God on where to go up to this point, I have felt led to go in the direction of prayer, so we will exhaust this subject matter as much as we can, and we will look at it from every angle.
That’s why I’ve entitled this teaching series, “Prayer School”.
I think that all of us would agree that we could stand to pray more, and I’d dare say “pray more effectively”.
Tonight, I want to show you just one pattern of prayer, that is the pattern of “Tabernacle Prayer”.
BACKGROUND
In our passage, Moses, the deliverer of Israel was on the mountain with God. It was at this particular meeting with the Father that God Himself gave Moses the moral law, which is commonly called “The Ten Commandments”.
After the consuming fire that appeared on top of the mountain there with God, He spoke some other instructions. He wanted Moses to make a sanctuary of worship with very specific instructions. This was because all the way back from Genesis, God’s design was to have a people He could fellowship with one on one.
TRANSITION
That’s what prayer is about—Fellowship with God. That’s why prayer is so hard it seems like to “do” and to focus on. Satan hates it when we spend time with Jesus in prayer because He knows how it affects his kingdom.
ILLUSTRATION
Before we get much further into this tonight, let me be clear: We aren’t in the Old Testament anymore. We are in the age of grace, and we have available to us the wonderful presence of the Holy Spirit.
In fact, in these days, the presence of God doesn’t live in that type of tabernacle of all. 1 Corinthians 6:19 tells us that our body is “the temple of the Holy Spirit”.
Yet, everything in the Old Testament points to a greater reality. So, let’s look at how the priest would minister before the Lord in the Tabernacle. After all, prayer is a priestly duty of all believers.
In the Tabernacle, there were three levels: The outer court, the inner court, and the Holy of Holies.
APPLICATION
Outer Court
- The priest had to wear a white linen ephod - clothed in righteousness
- You first came to the altar of sacrifice - Offering of ourselves
- You then came to the laver of washing - Repentance
Inner Court
- Also called the Holy Place. Only a regular priest tribe could enter.
- It contained the table of shew-bread - Symbolizing the Word of God.
- It had the Golden Lamp-stand - Having nine lights, it symbolizes the fullness of the Holy Spirit’s work.
- It had the altar of incense - It was symbolic of intercession and worship. It’s where you go to God on behalf of the people.
Holy of Holies
- In this place, only the High Priest could enter in.
- He had bells and pomegranates on his skirts. This was so he could be heard.
- In this place, was the Ark of The Covenant- It signified mercy and the presence of God.
- On the Ark was the mercy seat. The high priest would offer animal sacrifices on behalf of the people.
- It is here we remember Jesus sacrifice.
