Professor Ian Brighthope.
Listen in as we discuss the research behind vitamins C, D & Zinc . Professor Brighthope will also address efforts he has made to campaign widely to try to get the Government to consider introducing preventative protocols and evidence based natural treatment options for Covid 19.
In late February 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic had been affecting countries around the globe. Pro- fessor Brighthope realised that there would be a need for people to improve their state of health and increase their resistance to this new and novel coronavirus.
From previous experience and based on the scientific literature, he initiated a prophylactic and treatment protocol titled “The CD Zinc Campaign”. It consisted of the use of vitamin C, vitamin D and Zinc as oral supplements and the use of high dose vitamin D for deficiency states and high dose intravenous vitamin C for acutely and severely ill patients, either as outpatients or inpatients. The campaign was taken to the federal gov- ernment, unions, public, media and business.
The National Institute of Integrative Medicine’s (NIIM) Professor Ian Brighthope said there was mounting evidence the widely available nutrient VIT D could play a significant defensive role against coronavirus. A large portion of Victoria’s COVID-19 death toll can be linked to the aged care sector. Professor Brighthope is calling for a vitamin D rollout in Australia’s aged care facilities “without delay”, arguing the supplements can help build immunity to COVID-19 and help save hundreds if not thousands of lives.
ABOUT:
Professor Ian Brighthope:
A retired Medical Practitioner who graduated over 40 years ago with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He also has qualifications and experience in agricultural science and research. He originally specialised in Immunology but decided early in his career to focus on nutrition, nutritional, environmental medicine and herbal medicine as he understood they were the building blocks and keystones to health.
Professor Brighthope is the founding president of Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM) and has a lifelong ambition to help change the way medicine and healthcare is practised for the benefit of the public.
Professor Brighthope has published extensively for the general public and has appeared regularly in the media as an advocate of nutritional and environmental health. He is the author of 5 books and many scientific and medial lectures and reviews. His books have been endorsed by many luminaries, most notably the late Linus Pauling, the only person to have ever been awarded two unshared Nobel Prizes.
“Research from around the world is showing that vitamin D can play an essential role in both building immunity to the virus in the first place and also reducing the impact of the disease on those who do fall ill,” Prof Brighthope said.
Professor Ian Brighthope believes vitamin D can help build immunity to COVID-19. One in five Australians are vitamin D deficient, with the statistics more damning among higher-risk groups, Prof Brighthope said.
The institute’s founding director Professor Avni Sali said vitamin D could be a “cheaper and safe” method of safe guarding elderly Australians against COVID-19 until a safe and effective vaccine was found.
