Beyond acting, Somers became widely recognized as a fitness and wellness entrepreneur, famously promoting the ThighMaster exercise device, which became a pop-culture phenomenon. She authored more than 25 books, many focused on health, wellness, aging, and alternative medicine; several became New York Times bestsellers.
Her personal life was marked by resilience: she survived breast cancer and was an outspoken advocate of alternative health treatments, sparking both admiration and controversy in the medical community.
Suzanne was also known for her long and loving marriage to entertainer Alan Hamel, whom she married in 1977.
She passed away on October 15, 2023, at the age of 76, after a long battle with breast cancer.
