Love never fails (1 Cor. 13:8) whereas prophecies, tongues and knowledge must cease when "that which is perfect" has come. We see that the Greek word translated "perfect" actually means "complete" and that it refers to the completion of New Testament scripture, whereas seeing Christ "face to face" (v.12) refers to our entry into glory, the consumation of God's love.
