The Independent MEP Marian Harkin has lashed out at the European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker for the derogatory comments he made about MEPs yesterday. Mr Juncker berated them for failing to turn up for the address by the Maltese prime minister. The EU chief, who was in the chamber during the Maltese debate, described the parliament as being ridiculous. And he complained that there would have been a much bigger attendance if the German or French leaders were present. However, Marian Harkin says MEPs are extremely busy and can’t always attend every session in the chamber.
