So far in 2021, over 100 anti-trans bills in 33 states are under consideration in U.S. state legislatures. That's the highest number in any year since we started counting. Many of those bills target transgender athletes, with the goal of making it illegal for trans students to play on teams that correspond with their identity. Advocates argue that trans students threaten Title IX gains for girls sports. Opponents argue the growing anti-trans movement is about misinformation, misunderstanding and fear. So what are the facts? Donna Lopiano and Nancy Hogshead-Makar, both world class athletes and internationally respected advocates for sports gender equity, answer our questions. Additional resources they recommend include: Women Sports Policy Working Group; Champion Women, and Title IX Schools.
