Matthew 5:10-12

The most surprising “blessing” that Jesus announces in the beatitudes is the blessing on “those who are persecuted” (Matthew 5:10–12). This is totally contrary to the thinking of the world. The world says, “blessed are the popular and the well-liked.” The world says, “blessed are the revered, those who are comfortable, and those have what they want.” But Jesus’ values are not those of this sinful world.
