The Sinn Fein MEP Lynn Boylan has accused the Communications Minister Denis Naughten of dismissing an independent report into media ownership in Ireland. The report which was commissioned by Ms Boylan, was compiled by lawyers based in the UK and Northern Ireland. It concluded that Ireland had ‘one of the most concentrated media markets of any democracy’. And it found that too much of the Irish media is controlled by both RTE and the billionaire business man Denis O’Brien. Lynn Boylan has called on Minister Naughten to establish a Commission of Inquiry into media ownership in Ireland.
