US Close 24 July 17: US lower hit by GE quarterly result and lower oil

US sharemarkets ended slightly lower as investors dissected profit results. Shares in General Electric lost 2.8% after reporting a 60% slide in profit. But shares in Honeywell rose 1% to a record high after it raised its profit forecast. The Dow Jones fell by 32 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 fell by less than 0.1% and the Nasdaq fell by 2.2 points or less than 0.1%. Over the week the Dow fell by 0.3% but the S&P 500 rose by 0.5% and the Nasdaq rose by 1.2%.
