After the success of LETHAL WEAPON, Shane Black became one of the most sought after screenwriters in Hollywood, while still in his mid-20s. He'd immediately be hired as the screenwriter for that film's sequel, but left the project before it came to completion, resulting in Black taking a two year sabbatical from screenwriting. When he did get back to writing, his next screenplay resulted in a bidding war, which ending with Black being paid a record-breaking $1.75 million for his script.
