AM Report 8 June 18: mixed close, oil higher, tech under pressure and G7 on horizon

US sharemarkets were mixed on Thursday. Investors fretted about trade friction at this weekend's G7 meeting. But energy stocks rose in response to a higher oil price. The Dow Jones was boosted by a 4.4% lift in McDonalds on reports that the fast-food retailer was planning more job layoffs. The technology sector lagged with shares in Microsoft down by 1.6% and Facebook down by 1.7%. The Dow Jones finished higher by 95 points or 0.4%. But the S&P 500 index fell  by 0.1% and the Nasdaq index lost 54 points or 0.7%.
