34 ‘How will this be,’ Mary asked the angel, ‘since I am a virgin?’
35 The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. (Matthew 1:34-35)
A good question to ask now, in relation to the story of Christmas, is why did Mary have to be a virgin? We know that Jesus, as a human does not have a father and that as the Son of God he had no mother. The Holy Spirit, through whom Mary conceived, is not just any spirit, but He is God Himself, whose act must be understood spiritually and not physically.
