EU should suspend its funding to Poland – Kelly

The EU should suspend its funding to Poland until it addresses rule of law issues that are causing alarm across EU capitals.  

That’s the call from Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly who was speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

His comments followed a fiery debate in the Parliament this morning when the Polish Prime Minister (Mateusz Morawiecki) was eviscerated by many MEPs for the erosion of fundamental rights and judicial independence in his country.

Earlier this month Poland’s constitutional tribunal found that EU treaties were incompatible with Poland’s national constitution. Sean Kelly says Poland needs to get its house in order before it’s given badly-needed EU funds.
