Childhood maltreatment is exceedingly common and rarely acknowledged in our congregations. Victims of child abuse have higher rates of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) than combat veterans. The physical, emotional, mental and spiritual consequences of child abuse will be discussed, as will potential roles for Christian communities to promote prevention and healing.
