What is Credibility?
Why is it important?
Well to start the root of the word "credibility" is "credo" which means "I believe" in Latin. Simply put, credibility is the feeling of trust and respect that you inspire in others.
Credibility is an essential component of any relationship, whether it’s personal or professional. It refers to the quality of being trusted and believed by others.
Credibility is built over time through consistent and reliable behavior.
Trust is the basis of a solid relationship. To trust means to rely on another person because you feel safe with them and have confidence that they will not hurt or violate you. Lack of credibility can cause others to withhold trust, which can lead to a breakdown in a relationship.
To establish credibility in a business relationship, it’s important to deliver on promises by setting clear expectations, communicating them transparently, and ensuring that what you pledge aligns with what you can actually deliver.
Have ever worked for someone, a leader who had credibility? I have. If you think about that person chances are that THEY energized and excited their entire team. You knew that they would do the right things for the right reasons and you trusted their judgement.
Having credible leaders attract enthusiastic and committed followers, and people want to work for them. BUT credibility is important in many areas not just for leaders.
For instance, you would not attend a training course run by someone with no experience of the subject, right?
Would you invest your hard earned money with someone without the knowledge of trading? No you wouldn't. At least I hope you wouldn't.
No matter what your position, credibility is something that you have to earn. It takes time, consistency and patience to build it.
Character and integrity make up the foundation in building credibility. You also need to be authentic!
The more expertise you have and can demonstrate, the greater your credibility. Just be careful in how you communicate your expertise, you do not want to come across as arrogant know it all. Stay humble.
When you are transparent with others, they do not have to guess what your motivations or intentions are. So in both business and your especially your personal life, be a creditable human being . We need to do better.
