In 1962, various branches of the government, including the Navy and National Weather Bureau, commissioned Project Stormfury, Cirrus' descendant, and began a new wave of hurricane cloud seeding projects. The project lasted over 20 years, and reports say Stormfury never managed to dismantle a hurricane. And in 1983, Stormfury was canceled.
