EP 57: Whiteboard News: Gypsy Rose Blanchard, Donald Trump & Other Controversies

In this episode of Nurses Uncorked, Nurse Jessica and Nurse Erica introduce a new segment called Whiteboard News Updates. They discuss various current topics related to nursing and healthcare. The first topic is about Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who was a victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy and recently released from prison. She is now pregnant and facing controversy regarding her use of a home fetal doppler without medical training. This can lead to misinterpretation and/or a false sense of security. The second topic is about a nurse practitioner in Colorado who is under investigation for performing unsupervised invasive procedures at a fertility clinic. The third topic involves the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. Nurses and healthcare professionals have recently been terminated as a result of posting their political views on social media. Nurse Erica and Jessica emphasize the importance of not violating social media policies and the potential repercussions it can have on one's job. The final topic deals with the controversial California Board of Nursing Maximus program, a recovery and alternative to discipline program for nurses with addiction, diversion or mental health issues. The program has faced criticism for its frequent changing of policies without communication, high costs, and lack of support for nurses. Nurses in the program have shared their horror stories of the program, facing financial burdens, and experiencing mental health issues. The California Board of Nursing has been called upon to address the issues with the Maximus program and provide better support for nurses.
