In this episode, Mary Schaeffer, AP Now founder, and podcast host is joined by Nacha’s Rob Unger to address a pressing issue brought on by the coronavirus crisis. Nacha is a not-for-profit organization that monitors electronic banking in the US. Unger, an executive with over 20 years of Nacha experience, joined the podcast to address an issue facing many companies: How to Make Payments Remotely when They Are Not Set up to Do So. Schaeffer explained that her readers had been writing and asking, “Help – we pay mostly by check. How can we get folks converted to ACH ASAP?”
Unger provides practical, implementable advice to help both those who require verification as well as those who don’t. He also emphasized a number of best practices that all organizations should use. He discussed options when you can get the vendor on the phone and when you can’t. Unger reminded the audience that the vendor wants to be paid so as not to jump to the conclusion that you won’t be able to reach them by phone.
Towards the end, he also provided practical advice for small companies who rely solely on checks and many have thought they had no options.
The session closed with a short discussion of handling those change-my-bank-account requests in a time when it is difficult to reach the vendor on the phone.
