Unnecessary red tape is killing the LEADER programme in Ireland. And rural communities are suffering as a result. That’s the damning verdict from the Sinn Fein MEP Liadh Ni Riada. The LEADER programme is an EU-wide initiative that’s supposed to provide funds for projects in rural areas. However, Liadh Ni Riada says administrative demands are making it impossible for people to access the funds.

The decisions on LEADER funding are made at a local level. The Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs is the programme manager for LEADER.
