He starred at the University of Texas-El Paso under the tutelage of groundbreaking Hall of Fame coach, Don Haskins. He was drafted 14th overall in the 1989 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors and was part of one of the memorable trios in NBA History, Run-TMC (with Hall of Famers Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond). He went on to become a major part of the Miami Heat's emergence in the late-1990's, his #10 is now retired by the team. In his distinguished 14-year NBA career, Tim has made 5 All-NBA teams. During his retirement years, he has been an NBA assistant coach as well as a mentor to young basketball players around the nation. His son, Tim, Jr. is a guard for the Dallas Mavericks.
