On June 29th, 2015, U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) brought Deputy Interior Secretary Mike Connor to the Chaco Culture National Historic Park and World Heritage Site for discussion with officials from the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and National Parks Service, as well as community groups and others, regarding oil and gas development plans for the area around Chaco Canyon. Unconventional technologies such as hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and horizontal drilling have raised concerns beyond the usual risks that energy companies are known for on tribal lands. KGLP Station Manager Rachel Kaub, production assistant Korby Benallie, and volunteer producer Ivah Benally gathered sound and voices during a rigorous hike by Senator Udall's party up to Pueblo Alto, the highest ruin in the Chaco Culture NHP.
