Market Close 28 Jul 20: Local stocks fade to close in the red

It was a day that started with much promise, but the ASX 200 was unable to maintain its early positive momentum. The index saw a steady decline in the afternoon as only materials made any meaningful improvements. Gold stocks sagged after a bright start to the week.
